Spinning a film

This code isn’t too good and keeps crashing but before it does it comes out with a nice image. I think so anyway. Trying to learn how to do some VJing with video clips in Processing. Not working too good at the moment.

I’m orgainisng this event for part of the PULSE Fringe Festival in Ipswich, Suffolk.

…an evening concert of contemporary audio-visual computer performances.

hac brings together local, national and international artists working in the intersection of technology, science and the arts. The concert features performances which utilise wearable computing, live coding, hacking, DIY electronics, and digital performance. The performances are multidisciplinary and innovative, searching for new ways of engaging the audience and artist through computer code, wearable technologies and homemade devices.

Through the course of the evening new computer programs will be written live in front of your eyes, codes will shift and morph, sounds and visuals will emerge and explode: human movements will make 3D worlds shift and stutter: hacked programs will shriek and spew out their internal circuits. The performances will span from sonic soundscapes, experimental noise and feedback loops to electronica and techno.

This event is also a networking opportunity for artists, programmers, scientists and anyone interested in the cross disciplinary possibilities and development of computational arts.

The Plot Thickens and Bad Sekta compilations

•May 13, 2008 • Leave a Comment

I have a couple of tracks which will be on two different compilations.

The first is for The Plot Thickens – a series of touring squat exhibitions based on a story. The tracks on the CD are derived from the story too. My track is Mind Sweep. It’s an edited version of a longer piece originally for the Mindsweeper fundraising gig. More info should be here: http://theplotthickens.org/

The other track is Structure for the Bad Sekta compilation We Are Legion. Featuring tracks also from Acid Burp, Anxt!, DJ Richard Hillman, DJ Ultimate Kevin, Fractional, FZV, Hekula, Intonamori, Knaebot, Lastboss, Machinochrist, Mdk, Phuq, Praetorius, Randomoidz, Ronin, Sledgad, Spitting Vitriol, Stitch, The Fez!, The Grime-o-Cologist, The Teknoist, Tryptomatik, Wey Hey Hey, Wombcorps. I’ve been making a new patch with PD and Processing for this gig to do stuff with cut up parts of the film The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. I’ve just now got to find/make myself a costume to wear! ha!

still from The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari

A unique audio visual experience, taking films from the 1920′s, modulating, dissecting and pulling them apart and thrusting them into the future propelled by a good helping of cutting edge electronic music and sonic artistry. A one off exclusive experience live at The Roundhouse not to be missed.

The CABINET of Dr. CALIGARI.
This 1919 film by Robert Wiene sees a fairground hypnotist control a somnambulist, who has been sleeping for twenty-three years, to commit murders, dressed in a black stocking with a ghostly white face. In this performance the role of the fairground hypnotist is brought out of the screen into the theatre. With sensors attached to his body he controls the somnambulists vision and sound through his physical movements and gestures..

ODDSCENE (ft DAVID SKELCEY)
presents
SEVEN SEALS [1927/2007]
Seven Seals is an abstract, cinematic journey from the depths of the ocean to the shore. This unique performance will feature string players, a percussionist, piano, keyboards and samplers, and aims to visually demonstrate the very tight relationship between sound and image in non-spoken film. www.clubneurotica.com

PUTSCH Presents Häxan [1922]
A dark and ominous mix of breakbeat styles cut-up to accompany the images. Putsch are an audio-visual collective performing live manipulation of sound and image with an eclectic variety of instruments and controllers. For this show they will be performing a live triptych remix of the silent classic. Haxan is a macabre Danish masterpiece that was censored, banned and condemned upon release, but is now regarded as a classic of documentary cinema.
